Info:
My name is Abigail Healing, I am a fashion designer focused on sustainability. I am currently studying Marine Biology at UCLA. I am based in Chicago for the summer and in LA during the school year. I have been aware of the effects of climate change and global warming from a very young age and felt partially responsible for being a part of the change. I was not aware of my place in contributing to the growth of sustainability until I got into fashion. I started sewing at the age of 16 when I got my first sewing machine and would tailor pieces I found at thrift stores to make them fit or do simple up-cycling projects. I started sketching when I was 19 and got my first apple pencil using the mannequin as a background grew my creativity and from there I joined a fashion club at my school. I participated in runways and found my place in creating high-fashion wearable pieces with a low carbon footprint. The fashion industry and fast fashion is a major producer of carbon emissions and I want to be a part of the shift to slow sustainable fashion that is affordable and available for more people across the world.
