FAST AT UCLA RUNWAY 2025

The corset for this look was made from melted water bottle caps using a panini press and slowly melting them so it’s non-toxic. The skirt was made the same way but I tied the bottle caps together with metal wire. Both were spray painted to finish the look and bring it together showing that these “trash items” can be re-used in an upcycled way.

This look was made by sewing used keys onto a corset. These keys were collected from a locksmith who gave me all the unusable keys that were either broken or duplicates.

I collected tea bags from my friends that were all used and dried instead of being thrown out. I individually hand-sewed them onto a trench coat. Most popular brands of tea bags contain micro-plastics and take a long time to fully decompose.

The denim for this look was collected from my family and friends and my old pants and from previous looks. The top was layered and cut to give a frilly look alluding to the abundance of denim in landfills.

The fishing nets were sourced from etsy from a used fishing net company. They were previously used in the fishing industry which is known for polluting the oceans. This look represents ocean waste and how it can be elevated.

The wires were collected from the YRL library at UCLA. They collect trash electronics from around campus and let me take as many as I wanted. This look is meant to symbolize the grasp that technology has on the world and the waste it produces.

This look represents paper waste with newspapers collected from cafes or around campus. I cut them up and used modge podge to attach them to fabric.

This look was made from recycled chicken feed bags with the vest having an inner lined crochet with plastic bags. This look represents the most obvious waste product, plastic, and reuses it bringing trash new life.
