ABIGAIL HEALING
ABOUT
My name is Abigail Healing, and I am a fashion designer focused on sustainability. I am currently studying Marine Biology at UCLA. I have been aware of the effects of climate change and global warming from a very young age and felt partially responsible for being a part of the change. I was not aware of my role in advancing sustainability until I got into fashion. I started sewing at the age of 16 when I got my first sewing machine and would tailor pieces I found at thrift stores to make them fit or do simple up-cycling projects. I started sketching when I was 19 and got my first Apple pencil. Using the mannequin as a background grew my creativity, and from there I joined a fashion club at my school. I participated in runways and found my place in creating high-fashion wearable pieces with a low carbon footprint. The fashion industry and fast fashion a major producers of carbon emissions, and I want to be a part of the shift to slow, sustainable fashion that is affordable and available for more people across the world.
